Kriss Kross – Jump
Vodpod videos no longer available.

Remember this from way back when? When youngsta’s actually wore their clothes backwards just to be like Kriss Kross? It sounds silly now but it proves if you have a dope single and present a trend, people will eventually follow. Kriss Kross was gettin’ it in at the age of 13 after being discovered by Jermaine Dupri, and putting out singles like “I Miss the Bus” and today’s throwback joint, “Jump”. Today Kriss Kross is still working with Jermaine Dupri on different projects, and “Jump” was recently sampled by newcomer Nipsey Hussle for “Hussle in the House”.

Kurupt – We Can Freak It

Vodpod videos no longer available.

All this week I’ve been bumping the new BlaKQout album by Quik & Kurupt and it’s a banger. The album is filled with that West Coast vibe that’s been missing from hip hop over the past few years. That brings us to our throwback for the day, Kurupt’s “We Can Freak It”. This joint still bangs till this day and I’m loving the smooth BattleCat production. Be sure to cop that BlaKQout album dropping this Tuesday!

Goodie Mob feat. Big Boi – Get Rich To This

I’m a lil late with this one, but better late than never. This weeks throwback video is Goodie Mob’s “Get Rich To This”. No matter how old this joint is, it still go’s!
On a sidenote, where has Goodie Mob been? Cee-Lo’s been enjoying his success with his eccentric duo Gnarls Barkley, Big Gipp partnered up with Ali of St. Lunatics, and T-Mo and Khujo formed The Lumberjacks. A Goodie Mob reunion is much needed this day and age.

Takin’ Em Back – Mack 10 – Backyard Boogie

22 05 2009

Since Summer is almost here and pool parties have been poppin off lately, it’s only right I hit you with this throwback Mack 10 video for “Backyard Boogie”. After 12 years, this joint still sounds nice making me miss 90’s West Coast music.

Notorious BIG feat. Puffy & Ma$e – Mo Money, Mo Problems

I swear this joint brings back memories. This was when Bad Boy reached it’s zenith. It even gave Puff the alias as the “Shiny Suit Man”. Watching the video today it is a little cheesy, but it’s one of the most memorable hip hop videos from the 90’s. Speaking of Puff, he recently gave T-Pain his royalties for the auto-tune, which will be thoroughly used on his next album (sigh). Also, Bad Boy will be dropping the Notorious Soundtrack and movie in January.

Jay-z – Dead Presidents

One of my favorite Jay tracks ever! The rhymes, the beat, and the Nas sampled hook is all classic. I don’t agree with the Jiggaman saying Nas was using his voice wrong cause “The World is Yours” (where Jay got the sample from) is one of the illest hip hop joints.

Takin’ Em Back 10/31!

Happy Halloween to all and whatever you do tonight, drink responsibly. Meaning if you got a drink you’re responsible for drinkin it. Just playin, be safe though.
Below is one of the greatest videos of all time by one of the greatest entertainers of all time. It’s only right that I post this.

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Notorious BIG – Warning
Seeing that I just upped the trailer for “Notorious”, I felt that I had to post a throwback B.I.G. video. This is one of my favorite tracks by the great Biggie Smalls off the classic Ready to Die album. “Warning” is storytelling at it’s best; the lyrics, clear delivery, and that beat equal a timeless, dope track.

Got Ya Covered: The Old Generation Vs. XXL’s New Generation

21 10 2008

XXL’s December issue features Hip Hop’s new generation. There are three different covers including newcomers Charles Hamilton, Wale, Asher Roth, B.O.B., and many more.

This cover is reminiscent to The Source’s outstanding June 1998 cover that featured raps new generation at the time. The cover was a three page fold out, and unfortunately I can only find the first page of it.

Other artists that made the cover were: Big Pun, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, Cam’Ron, Noreaga, and Canibus. Let’s evaluate where these artists are now…

Amil feat. Jay-z, Beanie Sigel, & Memphis Bleek – 4 Da Fam

I saw a thread recently with someone saying they missed the old Roc-A-Fella days, and this joint was the first that came to mind. I loved that era in hip hop when everyone was cliquing up. You had the Ruff Ryders crew, Ca$h Money, Murder Inc., and of course The Roc. Watching this vid made the Rocafella crew seem promising, but they slowly disbanded as the years went by. Amil is rumored to work at K-Mart, Beanie Sigel developed a love/hate relationship with the Roc, Bleek’s still on the Roc but he’s been lowkey. Eventhough there was that Garnier Fructis commercial he did (I had to up this).
And the Jigga man, owns the Roc and is still putting out dope music. Anyways, peep the vid. This shit makes me want to pop in my copy of “Backstage”.
