Dope or Nope 11/25 – Mef Vs. Chef

25 11 2009

Raekwon & Method Man – Mef Vs. Chef Part 2 (Radio Rip)

The first joint off the upcoming Wu-Massacre album consisting of Rae, Method Man, and Ghost; is the follow up to “Meth Vs. Chef” off Method Man’s debut album, Tical. Like the original, Rae and Meth go in without a hook trading bars over a sick instrumental. In other Wu-Massacre news, the album got pushed back to February 2010.

Is the sequel as dope as the original?

MTV’s Hottest MC’s In The Game – Complete List

5 10 2009

mtv-hottest-mcs
Over the past week, MTV would announce an entry in their highly talked about annual Top 10 Hottest MC’s in the Game list. The list began with East Coast veteran Raekwon and followed up with more New York artists, but then stirred up some controversy by placing Gucci Mane and Rick Ross in the middle of the list. The daily countdown ended at number 5, and numbers 4 through 1 was left a surprise for this Sunday’s program for the countdown. As expected, Jay-z was number one. Check the list below (click any of the artists names to view the article) and continue reading to view my interpretation of the list.

10. Raekwon

9. 50 Cent

8. Fabolous

7. Young Jeezy

6. Gucci Mane

5. Rick Ross

4. Kanye West

3. Drake

Takin’ Em Back – 10/2

2 10 2009

Ghostface Killah featuring Raekwon & Carl Thomas – Never Be the Same Again
Since Ghostface dropped his R&B themed album, Ghostdini: Wizard of Poetry…, I’m posting today’s throwback joint “Never Be The Same Again” off his third album Bulletproof Wallets. Tracks like these that Ghost has made throughout his career helped mold and inspire him to take a new direction with his current LP. Sidebar, what happened to Carl Thomas?
Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry is in stores now!

MTV’s Hottest MC In The Game: #10 – Raekwon

28 09 2009

MTV is back with their annual “Hottest MC In The Game” list. Over the next week or so, they will countdown Hip Hop’s top artists on a daily basis building a huge anticipation for who is the critically acclaimed hottest MC in the game. They’re kicking things off with Raekwon The Chef at #10. Check it out!

Why He’s Hot: They’ve got him behind the pot again! Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon the Chef came back to cook up one of the most potent offerings of 2009 with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, which is the hottest album in the streets right now. And no, the Brain Trust isn’t just overcome with nostalgia — the conceptual Cuban Linx II picks up where its timeless predecessor left off a decade and a half ago. Rae articulates his calm anger and heavy-handed, at times unmerciful underworld regulation with a compellingly clear yet callous delivery. Production-wise, he went for the best: RZA, Dr. Dre, the late J Dilla.

Takin’ Em Back – 9/18

18 09 2009

Raekwon feat. Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Cappadonna – Ice Cream
I met Raekwon yesterday at Fat Beats in LA and got both Cuban Linx signed. Today’s throwback joint is off the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, reminiscent to when the Wu was in their prime. Joints like this, “You’re All I Need”, and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” stuck to the Wu’s signature, rugged Hip Hop sound, but still had mainstream appeal.
If you haven’t got that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 yet, make sure you cop that!

Album Review: Raekwon – Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II

9 09 2009

Raekwon-Only_Built_4_Cuban_Linx_2

In the 90’s the Wu-Tang Clan were an elite rap group from Staten Island made up of nine unique, hard body MC’s. Throughout their reign, they released group albums and a long list of solo albums. Some of the most known solo albums from Wu-Tang members are Method Man’s Tical, Ghostface Killah’s Ironman, and Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Any fan of Hip Hop can easily identify Only Built 4 Cuban Linx as arguably the best album from a Wu-Tang member and it still receives positive recognition from Hip Hop fans till this day. OB4CL pioneered the “Mafioso” rap style in ’95, and since then Raekwon has released solo albums and group albums which didn’t come near the caliber of his debut album. Ten years later, it was announced that Raekwon was going to make a sequel to the classic album, but after a number of changes and push backs, it didn’t hit the stores until 2009. Does Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 live up to it’s predecessor, or is it another Immobilarity?
