Dope or Nope 11/25 – Mef Vs. Chef

25 11 2009

Raekwon & Method Man – Mef Vs. Chef Part 2 (Radio Rip)

The first joint off the upcoming Wu-Massacre album consisting of Rae, Method Man, and Ghost; is the follow up to “Meth Vs. Chef” off Method Man’s debut album, Tical. Like the original, Rae and Meth go in without a hook trading bars over a sick instrumental. In other Wu-Massacre news, the album got pushed back to February 2010.

Is the sequel as dope as the original?

Takin’ Em Back – 9/18

18 09 2009

Raekwon feat. Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Cappadonna – Ice Cream
I met Raekwon yesterday at Fat Beats in LA and got both Cuban Linx signed. Today’s throwback joint is off the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, reminiscent to when the Wu was in their prime. Joints like this, “You’re All I Need”, and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” stuck to the Wu’s signature, rugged Hip Hop sound, but still had mainstream appeal.
If you haven’t got that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 yet, make sure you cop that!

Seeing is Believing 8/24 – New Raekwon Video

24 08 2009

Raekwon feat. Ghostface, Inspecktah Deck, Method Man, and GZA – House of Flying Daggers
Vodpod videos no longer available.

Raekwon drops the second video off the highly anticipated sequel to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx dropping on September 8th. In traditional Wu style, Rae links up with his Wu fam and body a J. Dilla track. The Chef takes an animated approach for this video, featuring members of the Wu Tang with various styles. If you dig animated videos, you will definitely be feeling this one.

Takin ‘Em Back – 8/14

14 08 2009

To add more to the hype for Meth-n-Red & Ghostface’s show tomorrow at the House of Blues, today’s throwback joint is the classic “Da Rockwilder”. “Da Rockwilder” remains to be a dope track till this day with a short running time of 2:15 putting the producer of the track (also named Rockwilder) on the map!

Seeing is Believing 6/26 – New Meth & Red Vid!

26 06 2009

Method Man & Redman feat. Erick Sermon – Mrs. International
Vodpod videos no longer available.

Method Man & Redman drop their second single off of Blackout! 2, “Mrs. International”. “Mrs. International” serves as the albums track for the ladies and features Erick Sermon on the hook. As usual, Meth and Red put humor into their videos by doing their rendition of an old singing group and Redman doing a quick Rick James rendition. If you still haven’t heard the Blackout! 2 album, you definitely have to check it out. Blackout! 2 is in stores now!

The Numbers Are In…

28 05 2009

519 releases
Last Tuesday, May 19th; various hip hop artists dropped albums. Some of those artists include Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Method Man & Redman, and mixtape veteran DJ Drama. Eminem has a reputation for successfull album sales and was highly likely to have the number one spot this past week. Eminem already surpasses gold status with his Relapse album. There was a mistake with the charts putting Method Man & Redman at number 4, when they are actually at spot number 7, leading to Busta Rhymes outselling the duo. Continue reading for the numbers!

Album Review: Method Man & Redman – Blackout! 2

21 05 2009

51b9egE0cML._SS500_

One of the rare occurrences in Hip Hop today is collaboration albums. Numerous solo albums filled with guest appearances have been released over the decade, but rarely do you see collaborative albums. Breaking this rare trend is the dynamic duo Method Man and Redman with their sequel to their platinum album Blackout! During their ten year hiatus, the two made a cult classic comedy, released two albums separately, and even had a short sitcom on Fox. The duo’s solo albums were both received as average, excluding Method Man’s commercial attempt Tical 0 which received bad reviews. Now with Hip Hop’s Cheech & Chong reunited, will the album spark more than the solo efforts, or will the album be another “Method & Red”?

Best News I Heard All Day: New Wu-Tang Album Coming Soon!

20 05 2009

Wu Tang Clan Chamber MusicI came across an ad for the legendary Wu-Tang Clan’s sixth studio album titled Chamber Music. Many people, including myself had no idea that a new Wu album was in the works, but apparently it is and is scheduled to be released June 30th. The last album 8 Diagrams was released in 2007 and the group experienced difficulties coming to an agreement about the music. Hopefully the unity is heavy on this project and it will be just as dope as their debut and some of their solo albums like Ironman.
There are also more solo albums coming from the Wu-Tang camp with Raekwon’s sequel to the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx dropping August 11th, and a new Method Man album dropping this Fall titled Crystal Meth.
