Album Review: Young Jeezy – The Recession

In 2005, Young Jeezy was introduced to the world via Def Jam records. His breakthrough album “Thug Motivation 101” had rap fans curious to see what happens after “And Then What”, had them vibing to “Soul Survivor”, and eventually made them “Go Crazy”; resulting in over 1.7 million units sold. While Thug Motivation was Jeezy’s first album, he branded himself as a “real street nigga” with his raps about drug trafficking, the trap, and his snowman logo, where he derived his alias. After the success of his first album, Jeezy released his second album “The Inspiration” which achieved platinum status as well. While the second album shared the same content as the first, Young Jeezy decided to take a different approach with his latest effort.

As we say goodbye to Summer of ’08, its only right that we highlight the song of the summer. Based on a poll right here on Hip Hop A.D., readers had to vote for the official summer anthem. With a million and one rappers using the instrumental, crazy radio and video spins, a album selling “a milli” in one week, its only obvious that Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” is the official summer banger.

Okay, so I’m a fan now. This “Circulate” joint is hot and it has a smooth sampled beat provided by Don Cannon (the same producer who brought you “Go Crazy”). About half of the album has leaked and so far so good.

Young Jeezy feat. Nas – My President is Black


In 2006 when Nas announced his album title “Hip Hop is Dead”, it caused controversy in the rap game. Artists such as Dem Franchise Boyz, T.I., and others expressed their thoughts about the title. One artists who did it publicly on a radio station in Philly was Young Jeezy, who heavily criticized Nas’ street credibility and eventually walked off the radio station furiously. About two years later, Jeezy takes a more political approach with his latest LP and reconciled his differences with Nas to bring a conscious record titled “My President is Black”.
