Seeing is Believing 6/2 – Spaceship

2 06 2009

Kanye West feat. Consequence & GLC – Spaceship
Vodpod videos no longer available.

I already know what you’re thinkin’, wasn’t this on Ye’s first album? Indeed it was and the video has a very late release yet it’s still much appreciated. Spaceship stands the test of time being today’s new video though the song is over five years old.
GLC, who does the songs second verse, made a good point that the song may be more relevant today with our current economical state. Whatever job you’ve worked at in the past you will definitely relate to this joint which is why this is one of my favorite Kanye tracks ever. This video is dope!

Girls, Girls, Girls – Chick of the Week 6/1: Nicki Minaj

1 06 2009

Nicki Minaj 1

The hip hop music genre continues to become more male dominant with the quantity of female mc’s decreasing. Not many mainstream female rappers are in the limelight; there’s Lil’ Kim, Trina, Missy, Eve, and others. There there’s Nicki Minaj, this week’s Chick of The Week. Young Money rapper/singer Nicki Minaj gets this week’s spot being the sexiest female artist out at the moment, possessing a sexual image similar to Lil’ Kim and Foxy back in the 90’s. Nicki Minaj hailing from Jamaica, New York and recently dropped her mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty. She’s currently unsigned but is generating a buzz based off her Wayne affiliation and sex appeal.

Dope or Nope 6/1 – I’m Goin’ In!

1 06 2009

Drake feat. Lil’ Wayne & Young Jeezy
drake-lil-wayne

This joints been out for a minute but originally had Wayne as the only featured guest. Eventually the official version appeared on Jeezy’s Trappin Ain’t Dead mixtape (click here to get it) with a Jeezy verse added. Unfortunately the track had tags, but the official tagless version is here. I’m not sure if it will appear on Drake’s upcoming Thank Me Later album, but regardless the joint is nice!

2009 MTV Movie Awards Shock Value

1 06 2009

mtv-movie-awards-poster1
I attended the MTV Movie Awards last night at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Universal Citywalk. The award show was decent; saw a lot of celebrities in the building, the set up was nice, and unfortunately “Twilight” won damn near every award.
What seems to be the talk of the net is the stunt performed by Sacha Baron Cohen in character as “Bruno”; a gay Austrian news reporter who also has a movie dropping in July. Bruno hangs from the ceiling dressed as an angel to present the “Best Male Performer” award. Instead of making his way to the stage, he “accidentally” falls onto Eminem’s lap with his butt in Em’s face. Peep the video below:

Takin’ Em Back – 5/29

29 05 2009

Goodie Mob feat. Big Boi – Get Rich To This

I’m a lil late with this one, but better late than never. This weeks throwback video is Goodie Mob’s “Get Rich To This”. No matter how old this joint is, it still go’s!
On a sidenote, where has Goodie Mob been? Cee-Lo’s been enjoying his success with his eccentric duo Gnarls Barkley, Big Gipp partnered up with Ali of St. Lunatics, and T-Mo and Khujo formed The Lumberjacks. A Goodie Mob reunion is much needed this day and age.

What’s Beef: Conflict Vs. Charles Hamilton

29 05 2009

conflict
From taking a Soulja Boy comparison as an insult, to referring to Rhymefest in a battle, to airing out his assistant/ladyfriend, it seems like Charles Hamilton doesn’t hold his tongue. With that being said, Charles recently made a reference to the West Coast which caught the attention of my boy Conflict. The Bludivision artist dropped a response track titled “Charlie” going in on Charles Hamilton. The reference was made on Charles Hamilton’s “Crack a Blogger” sampling Em’s “Crack a Bottle”. Con hi-jacks the track for his diss towards Charles.

The Numbers Are In…

28 05 2009

519 releases
Last Tuesday, May 19th; various hip hop artists dropped albums. Some of those artists include Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Method Man & Redman, and mixtape veteran DJ Drama. Eminem has a reputation for successfull album sales and was highly likely to have the number one spot this past week. Eminem already surpasses gold status with his Relapse album. There was a mistake with the charts putting Method Man & Redman at number 4, when they are actually at spot number 7, leading to Busta Rhymes outselling the duo. Continue reading for the numbers!

Lakers Win Game 5!

27 05 2009

It’s been a good series with the Denver Nuggets against the Los Angeles Lakers as they compete for the Western Finals. In Game 4 the Lakers experienced an unfortunate loss against the Nuggets, but they redeem themselves in Game 5. The score was close predominantly throughout the game, but in the 4th quarter, the Lakers take the lead resulting in their third win of the series. The Lakers win 103 to 94, and Game 6 will be this Friday in Denver. The Lakers lead the series 3-2, better than 1-3 ain’t it?
